American nabbed with 500 photos of naked Thai boys

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thai police have arrested a 56-year-old American teacher after 500 photographs of naked teenagers were allegedly found during a raid of his Bangkok apartment, police said on Tuesday.

Police said the man, who they named as Steven Erik Prowler, had lived in Thailand for six years and taught English at a government school in Bangkok.

"During the raid, we found two teenagers who said they just had oral sex with him," Colonel Surat Udomrat told Reuters. The two were aged 15 and 17, police said

And, as a pal has discovered published January 4, 2005 in "nationmultimedia.com" the following letter from Steven Erik Prowler:

Lack of public reaction from Bush is telling

There are times when we have to judge others not by what they do, but by what they haven’t done. At this time, I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to US President George W Bush for his conspicuous absence and lack of any compassionate public statement in the immediate aftermath of the Asian catastrophe, and to the American government for its pitiful donation of several million dollars. (The promises of additional aid over the last couple of days do little to erase my underlying belief about their stinginess, relative to private donations.)

While all of us would be happy to receive a gift of several million dollars, a “charitable” donation of a few million dollars coming from the world’s richest nation to the devastated regions of South Asia is nothing but a condescending slap in the face. It is tantamount to dropping a 25-satang coin into the cup of a beggar with a crippling injury or illness.

Anyone with an iota of knowledge of who George Bush’s real friends are could guess that his and his government’s incredible tight-fistedness reflect his hatred or indifference toward the religions of Asia. Had the tens of thousands of victims been born-again Christians, George would have been publicly bending over backwards, picking every last dime out of his own pockets to give them.

What a shame it was that the tsunami didn’t wash over the White House.

Mr. Prowler, Mr. Prowler, please check your political affiliations at the door, if you can ever get out of a Thailand Prison. Of course, you may feel free to petition the "cold" President Bush to at least get you to the United States, but alas, perhaps another liberal tsunami via media will overwhelm him....
