U.S. Marine in Mysterious Case Declared Deserter

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Marine Cpl. Wassef Ali Hassoun, charged a month ago with desertion in a mysterious case in which he left his unit in Iraq only to turn up in Lebanon, has failed to return to his base in North Carolina, the Marine Corps said on Wednesday.
In a statement, the Marines said that Hassoun "has been declared a deserter" after not returning on Tuesday to Camp Lejeune from authorized leave.

CNN reported that he had gone to Canada.
This is the same guy who says he never deserted. He was abducted, the terrorists said they had beheaded... yet he shows up in Beirut at an embassy. Makes you wonder... WHOSE embassy??
Now, all the sudden, the "I'm not a deserter" is officially AWOL from his non-hazardous assignment in North Carolina. Naw... he's an all-American boy... Right.
Better Canada than here, IMHO. However it's just one more reason to seal up that border with better immigration control. He'll probably just slither back with some disgruntled friends.
