House Democrats, seeking to take the offensive against Republicans in an effort to win back a majority, will talk Tuesday with a Berkeley scholar who says Republicans have succeeded by framing the nation's political debate on their terms. "
The scholar, UC Berkeley professor of linguistics and cognitive sciences George Lakoff, is a hot item in liberal circles these days as he argues Democrats must develop a message that resonates more deeply with voters.
...
Lakoff says Republicans -- through their elaborate think tanks that train them to influence the media -- have learned how to speak to voters in simple terms.
"You can't speak simply if people don't already have the issues you want to raise in mind,'' he said.

George Lakoff is posturing and proferring a mentality and programme which might have worked well in the early 90s. It is obvious that the "meaning of "IS" " changed all that. The Democrats, through the Monica Lewisky/Clinton Impeachment trials got themselves badly tarnished as the party which "spins". And now, a Mr. George Lakoff is challenging the Democratic Party to come up with new spins, and somehow this is going to fool the idiots in the Red States.
The underlying supposition of Mr. Lakoff runs the gamut: Red State voters are dupes; George Bush is an idiot but the think tanks made him "do it".
Yeah. Rush has it right: The left (Democrats) will continue to lose because they refuse to be honest about what they stand for and what they believe in. Take "gay marriage" for example.
Lakoff champions the phrase: "the right to marry.'' Socialist phraseology. Like Americans haven't gone through 40+ years of Dem's foisting "racism guilt" but somehow they are going to accept a different kind of "guilt"? That they are guilty of denying homosexuals marriage?
Sure, I should probably review the man's book. (A boring prospect). Not only is his line of thinking 15 years too late; he's raising a standard Dem playbook mantra which has brought Dems into the loser fold. He's ultimately suggesting that Dems do MORE of the same. The same being, what makes them lose elections and issues.
From what little is contained in the coverage of the article: He's the mommy who never does real discussions with her son when he's hurting -- she simply offers him a cookie to take his pain away. The new "spin" ideology is such a cookie. While it might brace up liberals; it ain't gonna fool very many folks, and especially as more and more folks are awakening and joining the throng of adults and adulthood.
Yeah. I'm disappointed. I was hoping this Berkeley Prof had something fascinating I could sink my teeth into and explore. He's not openly promoting more of the "hate Bush" thing; he's just offering more "word choices" for Democrats to again hide what they really believe.
The Democratic "moral vision" continues to expose itself. And the Democrats don't even see that. What say George Lakoff gives his next teaching presentation to a room full of Democrats, sans his pants, and see if anyone in the room notices.
