I'm snatching every available moment to keep on top of the buzz. Holidays, new home, family, soldiers, celebrations, etc. I away this weekend.
I get the impression the Bush Administration is trying to grow the Dems up. Some rumblings about Jane Harman D-CA for new Intel Dir..... Pentagon is planning for females in frontline combat... I have faith in this admin. I've been called "pollyannish" before.. many times, in fact.. but one thing has been true throughout it all... I was right. So pollyanish or not, yes, of course its important to study details but! -- this is a cutting edge administration intent on moving our country into the future.
Oh yes. I've read very much about the failures on halting illegal immigration. But the words which keep blinging through my backbrain is the word "technology" and "rebuilding intel."
The obvious is -- "deport illegals". And, given we've all been at this issue for so long (yes, I was involved with CA's prop 187) -- obviously all the methods we (the US) has employed to date just HASN'T worked. National Guard is being used in Iraq. Folks writing (Hackworth) about military being stretched tooo thin). Sure, that's one way of looking at it. It could also be looked at in terms of maintaining a budget. I ponder all the new technology which is emerging. Were I involved in specific endeavors, I'd be interested in tracking exactly where the illegals are coming from, via whom, and for what purposes -- what motivating factors. And, from that vantage point, I'd be looking at that area/country's relations with WHO?
In re the military, and females. The dye is cast, feminism-wrought. The newer plans to re-org the military into deployable units -- is good. I've witnessed the transition process, and the ultimate results. From where I sit, and what I've witnessed -- it's just not quite going to result in the picture being presented by conservatives. The "attachment" processes (intel, supply, combat, SF) are being org'd in such a way that is quite fluid. Males will still be predominantly in the frontline combat units. That females in related units could DIE or be hurt -- is already a reality.
Psychologically.. I'll wager we begin to see an increase in female recruitment. What we won't see are the MOS re-classifications, necessarily. I know some females who do certain work in the military which in fact has put them in harm's way; but not directly vis a vis the Marines/Soldiers in Fallujah. It will become increasingly difficult for hostiles to locate the source or "encampment" of the nerve center of the combat units. How's this? Technology.
This, IMHO, is going to have some fascinating effects upon US trade; import/export -- contracting - what goes in.
Lastly, Joe Farah has written about Jane Harman's liberal record. Do I think putting Harman in such a position would harm intel? no. It's basically a clerical job, as I've read thus far. Well, right.. not exactly clerical; but it's a traffic director job. Obviously, given her past record.. I'd consider this as putting a dyed-in-the-wool socialist into the hot seat.
But no, I don't think this is going to happen; Harman having the job. Can you imagine the nervous breakdown that chick might have in such a position? lol. No, no, I'm not laughing at the actual prospect of such; but rather, how she'd "feel" having to actually support America and the Constitution. Would she renege? Would she have a special code on a special phone to contact Dems to leak stuff? And does she really think she could get away with that? Nein!
For weeks now, not a thing has been uttered or written about the Bush Admin's actual bipartisan workings. It's not been a matter of merely "reaching" across the aisle.. I've been jaw-droppingly fascinating through observing the "bipartisan" activities by the Bush Admin.
This administration means business. Clear, clean, and obvious, when one stands back and studies the picture.
In re illegal: The US is transiting its policies and regulations. In the meantime, transitioning companies are still getting their product out.
And yes, some terrorists might be gaining access to our country. Do I think most all of these are being monitored? Yes.
Nope. I'm not in a popularity contest, and I have nothing to sell. The labrynth of intel is.. weird. It's a way of viewing the world and its operations that is not quite the view of Joe Citizen. Some say it should be clean, clear, and obvious. No. That's not how it works. It is bizarre, byzantine simply SO citizens can maintain their clean, clear, and upfront coda of living.
Information gathering and collating is not a job for just anyone. Again, it is a byzantine world to the outsider; but very clear to those involved.
