Able Danger Foxtrot IV: Weldon's Timeline
Captain's Quarters, Sept 9th, 2005
Among the unrecognized victims of Katrina is other news of the world. Since the MSM is apparently unable to multitask, there is a dearth of information coming out on other important issues of the day. And truly few issues can be as important as the existance and demise of ABLE DANGER, and the information gleaned by the operation and ignored by all too many.
What has come to light, masked by news of Katrina, is the Pentagon's admission that many ABLE DANGER documents were destroyed as recently as 2003. A time when the 9:11 Commission was in full swing, and Sandy Berger was lifting top secret docs in his socks and pants.
How can behavior such as this *not* seem improper at the highest levels?
The UPI story linked by Ed Morrisey at Captain's Quarters comes up with an error, unable to find the server. So I quote from the Capt's blog post itself for the article's text.
Last week, Pentagon officials told a hastily arranged briefing for reporters that much data generated by the project -- code-named Able Danger -- was destroyed in accordance with standard operating procedure for handling material that might contain the names of Americans.
Weldon said he had asked the Pentagon for the certificates of destruction that military officials must complete when classified data is destroyed.
He said that there had been 'a second elimination of data in 2003,' in addition to the destruction acknowledged last week.
Weldon said that a hearing next week before the Senate Judiciary Committee would hear testimony from the individual who destroyed the data.
'For some reason, the bureaucracy in the Pentagon -- I mean the civilian bureaucracy -- didn`t want this to get out,' he said.
No shit, Sherlock....
Congress... another body of individuals evidently lacking multitasking skills, has opted to push back addressing ABLE DANGER until Sept 21st, 2005. Interesting that they overlook the intrinsical link that ABLE DANGER is key to the prevention of wide spread disasters (like Katrina) in the nation - disasters that (unlike Katrina) are not caused by nature with warning, but by terrorists without warning.
Evidently Congress's triaging skills are nonexistant as well.
