The venerable Gold Star Moms organization does NOT do political advocacy work. Individual Members can represent their own views, but not the organization's. However, Cindy Sheehan's org, while claiming to be a 5013c, IS doing political advocacy work.
Here's some links to some Moms of our Fallen who are speaking out -- and not at all with the same anti-American flavor as Ms. Sheehan.
Mother of fallen SEAL says she still supports the war
I'm hoping, by having another mother who's lost a son speaking out loudly and strongly, that the troops will hear it and be heartened by it," she said. "Because we all know how they're always shocked when they get home and they find out what has been reported."
...
"I just don't want it to be the only story," Healy said. "I want the other voices to be heard so that the young men that fought with my son — that were broken-hearted from all their buddies getting killed — will know somebody else is speaking out for them. And maybe they won't be heard as much as Cindy Sheehan, but there's somebody trying, anyway."
Mom of fallen airman calls cross memorials insulting
The mother of a Lompoc Air Force officer killed in Iraq is demanding that crosses bearing her son's name be removed from Santa Barbara's Arlington West memorial and from an impromptu display outside President Bush's Texas ranch, where the mother of another fallen soldier sits in vigil.
...
While the Lompoc mother's grief has turned to anger, a Vacaville mother has become the face of the antiwar movement, gaining international attention as a "peace mom" for her week-long demonstration near President Bush's Texas ranch, a crusade she vows will continue despite counter-rallies and threats. Cindy Sheehan's son, 24-year-old Casey, was killed in Iraq in April 2004, and she is seeking a face-to-face meeting with the president to ask for an immediate withdrawal of troops from Iraq.
...
"I feel sorry for Ms. Sheehan and her loss, but she can memorialize her son -- nobody else's -- in her own way," Mrs. Bastian said.
...
"Derek is never, was never, will never, be about insulting the president of the United States or being part of an antiwar campaign," Mrs. Bastian said. "It is insulting to have his name up there among people who chose to do that."
A Mother's Pain: Local moms who lost sons in Iraq don't support fellow mom's vigil
Marla Uhles said Sheehan has gone "overboard" and it has become more about the publicity.
Marla Uhles lost her son, Marine Lance Cpl. Drew Uhles on Sept. 15 in Iraq.
Marla Uhles: "I don't know, I think she's more out for herself right now than for her son," she said.
Lisa Short said some days are better than others since learning in early November that her son, Lance Cpl. Aaron Pickering, had been killed while fighting in Fallujah. She still holds onto the last letter Aaron sent her and reads it almost daily. She reread it again Monday.
"He said, 'Mom, our presence here is necessary,'" Short said.
That's why she said it's difficult for her to believe in Sheehan's cause. This is an all-volunteer military, she said, you sign up knowing you might put yourself in harm's way.
"That's the whole point of joining the military," she said. "I don't support what she's doing. I just can't."
Melinda Astin said even though two months have passed since her 20-year-old son Sgt. Brian Romines died, the days are still difficult - sometimes more difficult than in the beginning.
...
"I sympathize with anyone who has lost a child," Astin said. "But all I can do is support the troops right now."."

Parents Upset About Sheehan's Protest
Matt and Toni Matula don't want their son's name to be part of an anti-war demonstration.
"Matthew was very proud of being a Marine and proud of his unit and what they were doing," Toni Matula said.
When the Matulas saw the Crawford protest on TV, something did more than just bother them.
"All this stuff going in crawford, we've just been watching it and shaking our heads until two days ago, we saw the crosses with the names on there," Matt Matula said.
On one white cross read the name Mattew Matula: their 20-year-old son who was killed in Iraq last year.
"He's not a victim, he's a hero, and I think that everybody that's serving our country is heroes," Matt Matula said.
"He knew joining the Marines, his chances are, that was the purpose. His main number one job was to defend our country. He was very aware of that before he signed up," Toni Matula said.
So Matt Matula went to Crawford to stand up for his son, a Marine who proudly stood by the war he died in.
"I went there and had Matthew's name taken off of there. It's fine for people to grieve their own way. It aggravates me to see them using other people's names to further their cause," Matt Matula said.
"For people to use his name against it is not what he died for. He died so that they can do that though," Toni Matula said.
That's what we need: a conservative "NOT IN OUR SOLDIER'S NAME" movement. To include families of deceased fallen and active duty.
Well!
YOU DON'T SPEAK FOR ME, CINDY! TOUR (Melanie Morgan)
Move America Forward will be conducting the “You Don’t Speak for Me, Cindy” caravan beginning next week. It will feature military family members who have loved ones serving in the war against terrorism in Iraq or Afghanistan.
The delegation will be led by Deborah Johns of Northern California Marine Moms. She will lead the caravan to Crawford, Texas where she and Move America Forward Chairman, Melanie Morgan, will lead a “WE SUPPORT OUR TROOPS & THEIR MISSION” rally in Crawford on Saturday, August 27th, 2005.
We need your support - either joining our caravan or meeting us for the giant rally on August 28th.
If you have a loved one serving in Iraq or Afghanistan and would like to join the caravan please contact Move America Forward’s Robert Dixon: Email Robert@MoveAmericaForward.org
I hope many will join this effort. Just knowing one exists, gives my heart relief -- in re those I know who have been fallen in battle, and those currently serving. Oh yes, the grieving tears still grab me. Not as often; but yet as instantly and encompassing. But I cannot begin to describe what it feels like to witness a deceased loved one being "abused" in death by the anti-War political groups. And, they know it hurts us. I cannot begin to describe the white light that takes hold in my head when I think of those precious souls serving in active duty who might believe the MAJOR SPIN CRAPOLA PUT FORWARD BY SHEEHAN AND THE MSM.
If anyone understands what is going on here -- I believe it is the liberated Iraqi's and Afghani's -- I bet they can smell anti-freedom propoganda before it even hits MSM cyberwires.
