Meanwhile, same article, US Marines have arrived in Sri Lanka where estimates currently have 46,000 dead and approximately 14,000 missing.
Before my mind could even grapple, comprehend, those numbers... I flashed on Major Owens, from March 1995, on about the slave trade and sharks:

Such was the case with a now-famous clip of Congressman Major Owens (D-NY) on our March 1, 1995 show. In it, Major Owens backs off his previous claim that 200 million slaves were lost in the journey from Africa to the New World. "So great was the number of people who were thrown overboard," the congressman had claimed, that sharks still follow the ships "seeking the flesh that was thrown overboard in all those years." Rush was the only person who dared question this number with facts. |

14,000 people are missing from Sri Lanka. My mind cannot countenance that number, much less 46,000 dead from the tsunami.
How did Major Owens get his 200 million slaves figure? Like, no one would notice 200 MILLION people "missing"?
May the good Lord bless the sailors and fishermen out at sea.
