Without drawing the parallels in words, Amsterdam appears to be the first Euro-nation that is beginning to echo our Cowboy President's strategy of going after all terrorists, and not just al Qaeda.
AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - The Dutch secret service says combating terrorism also means tackling the problem of thousands of disaffected "born again" Muslims in the West who are open to the appeal of a radical, puritan version of Islam.
The AIVD intelligence service said fighting extremist Islam demanded much more subtlety and concentrating only on Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda network was a mistake as many militants operated outside any formal group structures.
There are far too many Americans who believe that our efforts should concentrate solely on the Bin Laden inspired terrorists because of 9:11. But thank heavens there are far more that recognize that any terrorist assailing western interests on the planet is a terrorist that needs to be dealt with swiftly, and with finality.
What seems notable is the Dutch also see the link between the radical Islamic education that preaches hatred to the youth and the WOT. Amazingly enough, the youthful, "born again" Muslims hate Western ways, and readily reject Amsterdam's bastion of liberalism in favor of a strict, religious regime.
How long do you think it will take for them to regret the more than radical swing from one side to the other?
"Recruitment of Dutch youths with mostly foreign roots for the armed radical Islamic struggle is rather a trend than an incident in The Netherlands," the AIVD said.
The AIVD identified eight different kinds of radical Islam, ranging from non-violent but anti-democratic Muslim preachers to radical Muslim nationalists openly prepared to use violence.
(snip)
"They want Muslims in the West to turn away from Western values and norms. They preach an extreme aloofness from Western society and often propagate intolerance of other groups."
The AIVD said ways of countering the threat from radical Islam included bolstering moderate Muslim leaders, encouraging the emancipation of Muslim women and more actively prosecuting suspected incitement to violence or discrimination.
Encouraging a more moderate form of Islam? The emancipation of Muslim women? Is this not just the sort of interference and influence terrorists claim as a foundation for their violence?
In order for this approach to work, the Muslims the MSM likes to call "peaceful Islam" would have to start speaking out.... asserting control over their own religious education in direct opposition to the terrorists' recruitment for jihadists and suicide bombers. Considering "peaceful Islam's" silence for decades thru increasing assaults on western interests, and their own fear of the radical elements, I suspect such a movement is highly unlikely.
But here's the real mind boggler to me. Why would any Muslim youth crave oppression? Why do they advocate for a gov't run by the likes of the radical Taliban, or relish the thought of living under a tyranny such as Saddam's?
Young, recruitable Muslims obviously differ from their older, wiser counterparts, as recent history has shown. Without question, the Afghan Muslims prefer the Taliban gone. Even the majority of Iraqi Muslims, while not overjoyed to see American troops parading thru their streets, are happy Saddam was removed. This, despite the fact that Saddam did not run a radical Islamic state, but merely a comparable sadistic regime of fear, torture and corruption.
Why is it the youth are so quick to wish for the same tyranny which other Muslims are happy to see removed from power? Either something is clearly lost in communication between parental Muslim families and their children, or we are seeing a generation of angry Muslim male youths easily seduced by the promises of violence, virgins for martyrdom, and a rise to power for the surviving who dwell in the "inner circle" of the terrorist leaders.
Certainly if the young Muslims of today can accept a drastically altered Qu'ran - by passing the calls to kill infidels and instead practice tolerance and non-violence with other religions and citizenry - more harmony in the world could indeed be possible. Yet I can not help but note this is in direct conflict with the Qu'ran's religious teachings and the Islamic quest for the caliphate state.
Even more puzzling is the international community's blind eye to the Muslim quest for segregation in a "diverse" world.
Keep a close eye on the Netherlands and their struggle with their segregated Muslim immigrants. They are more than a step ahead of their EU compadres in the WOT.
