Dan Rather: Saga Queen

Would he Rather stay or should he gooo....

Dan Rather is stepping out on CBS. heheh. You won't hear that anywhere. But indeed he is. You will hear stories of the courageous Dan Rather, martyr, leaving CBS and but only to Save CBS from the Pajamabloggers and their Brokaw-coined-Jihad! You see, he really did want to leave CBS, anyway. He just did that ole deception number like a guilty husband would purposefully leave a lipstick stained hanky in his suit pocket for his wife to find. As PeeWee Herman might have squeeked, and Big Dan implies: "I meant to do that!".

Rush says: ABC Non-Scoop: Rather Leaving On Schedule : I don't want to upset your breakfast here with this news, but Dan Rather is stepping down. It's all over the place. ABC has this exclusive: Rather Stepping Down... in March! Go back to this program. Go back to the transcripts of this program during the Bill Burkett forged document story and you will see that I clearly said it's been in the works for Rather to step down next March all along, and so here comes this big leak from ABC that Rather is stepping down in March.

Jay D. Homnick writes: Number one, even if Dan was planning to do this anyway, the perception will remain that it was catalyzed by a single event, that he was turned away at the Guard Gate. His career may have had no more peaks and valleys than the average, but the battle most remembered will be the one at Valley Forge. The fact is that the last impression will be the strongest, and people will have the sense that he left in disgrace.

Who will replace him, this icon of the MSM? IMHO, no one. And why? That Cronkite age of time has passed, the future has moved on and people worldwide have a liberty in gathering information and facts for themselves in ways never before imagined: Internet, talk radio, blogging, email, TALK radio. Of course, many will still want to hear their favorite Anchor or Anchorite deliver the "story" but that is no different than seeking out your favorite talk show host or website for news and data. What will not change is that politicians will still uphold the MSM as an official channel for political and world news. Sort of a "emergency broadcast" situation. Underneath it all, this is what started the MSM -- a loci, a gathering place, a waterhole of information to be dispersed on a mass level. I think this will remain intact.

And Dan Rather will be remembered as the man who ushered this new age to begin a full.
