WASHINGTON -- Attorney General John Ashcroft, a fierce conservative who generated controversy with his tough tactics in the war on terror, and Commerce Secretary Don Evans, one of President Bush's closest friends, resigned Tuesday, the first members of the Cabinet to quit before the start of a second term.Alia: I only knew bits and pieces about John Ashcroft prior to his appointment to Bush Admin. Given the hysteria from the liberals over his appointment, I found through my own research, what an entirely impressive man he is. Dittos, Don Evans. My gracious thanks to both of these men for doing superb work, and my best regards to their wellbeing and future. Yes, I'm saddened to see John Ashcroft leave the position. He did very good work.
