Nervous? Ralph Neas?

Dr. Dobson, Focus on the Family, "promises "a battle of enormous proportions from sea to shining sea" if President Bush fails to appoint "strict constructionist" jurists or if Democrats filibuster to block conservative nominees." (NY Times)

However:

"Ralph G. Neas, president of the liberal group People for the American Way, which has often opposed conservative court nominees, said, "Mr. Dobson's arrogance knows no limits." He added: "This is the kind of tactic that ultimately backfires. These senators have served their constituents well and have courageously voted their consciences. I don't think they will take kindly to threats from Mr. Dobson, and I don't think the voters will either." "

We gotcha surrounded, Ralph Neas. I parrot Larry the Cable Guy to Mr. Dobson: Get'r done.

Alia,..there is a fine line between jurists with "conservative values," which I cherish, and jurists who uphold the letter of the Constitution.

The Supreme Court was never meant as an arm of the Executive Branch to push ANY agenda.

Indeed, TrekMed. There is quite the difference between conservative values and upholding the law.

Of course the little ditty muddying the waters is "upholding" the law really means "interpreting" the law. And that evokes diverse opinions subject to ideology. Their interpretation results (however deliberate or not) in pushing the agenda of one party over the other.

Add to that, the Supreme Court has no "oversight", in essence answering to nobody but. Only another expense legal appeal. But even those run out and what the Court says... is final.

When you give someone the power of the "last word", you'd better make sure they are the best that they can be.
