Mata Musing
Just a couple of quotes from a CNN article to follow up the US Aid Coalition vs UN "moral authority".
It appears Kofi wanted in on the deal after speaking with Colin Powell.
Powell conferred by video hookup with U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan, and the United Nations was added to the core group planning relief efforts. The others are the United States, Japan, India and Australia, which raised its pledge to $27 million, just $8 million below the U.S. pledge.
Powell will meet with Annan at the United Nations on Friday.
Not to be outdone in the "monkey see, monkey do" department, Dirk Jan van den Berg of the European Commission said he expects they should be following suit not long after.
Apparently, one of the main tasks of the coalition is to not only ensure that aid efforts are not unnecessarily duplicated, but to have some countries deal more directly with others because of an established relationship.
Since I'm one to give credit where credit is due... as much as it may hurt in this case (LOL)... this is the moment to note the basics of the US Aid Coalition follows Teflon Bill Clinton's suggestion which I posted earlier this week.
While it still scares the "Willies" out of me (pun intended...) to think of a Clinton-headed UN, his suggestion was good, and perhaps it was used as a foundation for the Aid Coalition's implementation.

Grrr,..New Year's Day,..I have a hangover and you lay this prospect on me:
Bill Clinton running the UN,..
Hillary Clinton as President of the US,..
OWWWW,..my head hurts!
TrekMed! So thou'st went out and tied one on with fun and frolic? Good on you. Boy I miss those days. Unfortunately, I pay the price too heavily in my "almost golden years" with self abuse.
But let me massage that fine head of yours with ray of hope.... gently, of course. (grin)
I sincerely doubt that the UN assembly will ever agree to putting an American in the top dog seat. They already feel we have too much power within the UN, and other member states would be none to comfortable with our enormous sway and veto power, PLUS an American holding the Secy'Gen seat.
No promises, mind you... But considering the anti-American sentiment that runs so high thru the majority of member states, confirming even Bill the Charmer seems unlikely at best.
As for Hillary... hang, this nation has already demonstrated that they do not want leadership with extreme left leanings. Hillary is definitely extreme left. With that, her election would appear unlikely.
However, the tough thing to argue is that her voting record as an official member of Congress doesn't reflect her personal extremist tendencies. And in that, there may be a tough road to hoe for those of us not comfortable with her politics in the White House.
Time will tell. Much can happen in the next 3 years. Rejoice in the results of the last election and hope that the opportunity for tides of change by conservatives is not wasted.
Ahhh,..my head feels so-o-o-o much better already.
Best wishes.
