System and lines got terribly tangled here. Mata -- your postings have kept me current -- thank you! (Excellent commentary, darling!).
Had a MAHVELOUS Christmas!
Arose early this morning, stumbling downstairs, looked out a window and found the world looked odd. YIKES! SNOW! SNOW! SNOW!
Awakened everyone. And for hours we watched the most perfect snowfall. Could not travel, whatsoever. Still is hazardous.
Just read 11,600 (est) dead in Malaysia (Sumatra, primarily). I'm speechless, and deeply aggrieved.
I'll be back.

You're welcome for the added contributions on sea2sea, mon pal Alia. Altho I must say, I too have been a tad derelict passing on news and commentary. I received a hardback copy of the LOTR for Christmas.
Haven't read them since high school years, so I dived in and barely poke my head out to do much of anything! I am so undisciplined when I get into a reading mode. Once I leave the planet and join the world of imagination, I am reticent to return to reality.
Snow... Gorgeous it is. And so pretty when you don't have to drive anywhere. New for you all, I know. So be careful. Chains, chains, chains please! And, should you have gotten a 4 wheel drive, remember that ice is still ice, even with a 4 wheeler! Don't rest on false notions for that feature. You can still skid easily.
Suggest you pack some roughed up boards for under the wheels and a shovel for digging out, in case you get caught somewhere in a snow drift. At least you can try to create traction where there would otherwise be none. Perhaps a sturdy rope for being pulled out as well.
Oh yes... and look at *everything* as a new adventure! If you're stuck in a snowdrift, you will meet some wonderful rescuers!
Happy New Year, my wonderful friend!
Angel, you know yer stuff! I tried to get to the other home (last minute cleaning, packing); and couldn't, yesterday! ICE. A wee hill. None of us could make it except 4-wheel drives. I don't have a 4 wheel drive. Yet.
I will do as you suggest in re the roughed up boards and spade. We moved into this, our new home, two days before Christmas. My firewood was delivered Christmas Eve. I've got all my emergency supplies stocked up; plus kerosene heater, water, meds, etc.
I haven't lived in snow since I was a girl.
I figure snow and ice to be the great age leveler: We all step like 90-year olds when ice is apparent. lol!
However, the ONLY thing I couldn't squeeze in? Getting chains for the car. I shall do this. Between packing, moving, shopping, preparing a new house, settling pets and everyone in, hosting Christmas, dealing with a remodel project -- I've been catnapping on the fly. I got washer and dryer operational last night.
We experienced an "early" seasonal snowstorm Christmas night. Wowsa!
But yes, blew me away -- watching that ole' truck in front of me sliding backwards, and the one coming down the week hill fishtailing. I immediately began backing up. And so did the line of cars behind me. We all decided it was a good day to do a ton of other stuff besides trying the ice.
