No surprise that the Cowboy Prez, with a history of taking the more "unpopular" road according to polls, won't cave in to the media and Congressional hysteria.
"After careful review by our government, I believe the transaction ought to go forward," Bush told reporters who had traveled with him on Air Force One to Washington. "I want those who are questioning it to step up and explain why all of a sudden a Middle Eastern company is held to a different standard than a Great British company. I am trying to conduct foreign policy now by saying to the people of the world, `We'll treat you fairly.'"
Now that is calling a spade a spade.
In the meantime, the opposition leader, Chuck Schumer, fully admits DP World could be qualified for the job, but says it's an issue of trust.
"This United Arab Emirates government-owned and operated company could be perfectly qualified to operate ports around the world," said Senator Chuck Schumer, the most vocal among the group. "But the question that needs to be answered is whether or not they can be trusted to operate our ports in this post 9-11 world," he said, referring to the Muslim emirate.
Woof... Nice quote, Chuck. I'm sure OBL and Zarqawi will pick up on that in a heartbeat. Still aiding and abetting terrorists in the PR war, eh?
